1. Who we are
The Build Hub (Pty) Ltd is a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa under registration number 2023/812644/07. Our registered office is at 32 De Korte Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001.
2. What we do
We publish original research and tools to help South African homeowners plan, budget for and execute residential construction projects. We also operate a directory of verified contractors and a matching service that introduces homeowners to three verified pros in their province.
We do not act as principal contractor, principal agent, architect, engineer or quantity surveyor on any project. We do not enter into building contracts on your behalf or for our own account.
3. No professional advice
Articles, tools, calculators and editorial content on this site are general information only. They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional — an architect, engineer, quantity surveyor, attorney or accountant. Always engage a professional for project-specific guidance.
4. The directory
We verify contractor profiles against NHBRC and CIDB public registers and a documented internal process at the time of listing. We re-verify annually. We do not warrant the workmanship, financial standing or conduct of any listed contractor. The contract you enter into is between you and the contractor — we are not party to it.
5. Hire matching
When you submit a hire request, we share the information you provide with three verified contractors who we reasonably believe match your scope, budget and province. We don't share your contact details with anyone else. Quotes you receive are your own to evaluate, accept or reject.
6. Your account and content
Some features require an account. You're responsible for keeping your credentials safe. You agree to provide accurate information when you sign up and update it as needed. You retain ownership of anything you submit (project briefs, reviews, photos), but grant us a non-exclusive licence to use it to operate the service.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use the site to defame anyone, post fake reviews, scrape content for commercial purposes, attempt unauthorised access, or interfere with the service. We may suspend access if you do.
8. Intellectual property
Articles, code, designs and tools on this site are owned by The Build Hub (Pty) Ltd or our licensors. You may share links and quote short passages with attribution. You may not republish or commercially reuse our content without written consent.
9. Liability
We do our best to publish accurate, sourced information — but we cannot guarantee it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from your use of the site, including (but not limited to) losses arising from contractor disputes, cost overruns or delays.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Constitution.
10. Changes
We update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the current version. We'll notify you of material changes by email and on the site.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes that can't be resolved through good-faith negotiation will be referred to the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division (Johannesburg).
